I had never really thought that decks might get jealous of each other.

I also was reminded of The Dice Man and of flipping a coin.

And even the I Ching...

how is the secondhand market in Tarot these days?

Yeah it is an idea I came across in one of the books I was reading. Not sure about the secondhand market, most of my decks are new.

I saw some cards on eBay, but they seemed counterfeit, made to look old, not actually old.

I did find some decks in a car boot sale and took them home as it hurt my heart to see them there uncared for.

That is really cool about the decks in a car boot sale.

It might hurt my heart as well.

Perhaps other people might like to know more about this too.

Counterfeit ancestry on eBay.

Do you look at eBay or other auction sites much when you're searching for good Tarot decks?

[sometimes eBay might send you an e-mail or two in that particular direction].

One thing to make cards and paper look old is coffee

[and a coffee theme could make your Tarot special in other ways - or a tea theme]

And then I remember reading Clementine Morrigan's experience with having coffee thrown on her zines!

Back to jealous card decks - it did seem to me like an urban legend or a superstition.

If anyone else is interested in the concept - I did find two stories / asks on Reddit - when I was searching for "jealous card decks"

https://www.reddit.com/r/tarot/comments/9fo8pu/do_decks_get_jealous/

and I think you did talk about how your decks reacted to you using them at first

https://www.reddit.com/r/tarot/comments/c6njia/i_think_my_decks_are_jealous_of_each_other/

It does seem like another example of Sympathetic Magic or Animism.

A few people in my family think that reading Tarot was me getting into the occult and doing witchcraft, and it is like, no, I'm not. I just read it to get some positivity and guidance - especially as I'm on dialysis now. I'm not howling at the full moon, nor am I in a dark room casting spells and sticking voodoo pins into dolls

The legend and stories of Tarot fascinate me as well. xxx

I find the Tarot to be a great pastime and it helps keep your mind off things. Plus it is such a generous subject that you can read for a long time and still have things to discover. I hope all is well Anna!

Ah - yes - Tarot is a Deep Text.

So are wolves and voodoo.

Good to know you are getting positivity and guidance, Anna.

I mostly know stories related to the Rider and the Marseilles decks.

And used to go to a site called Trusted Tarot.
