Sometimes it happens that I dream stories, or better said, my mind creates them while I am sleeping and shares them with me in the form of dreams.
What is truly amusing is that, at times, the mind that works on the stories while I am sleeping gets stuck. It cannot figure out a detail or how to progress the story and then, impatiently, it asks for help from the other mind that was sleeping restfully.
Then I am in this state of half asleep, half awake, fully aware of the story and the details and I try to find a solution to advance the process so I can go back to sleep.
Most often, these stories created while I sleep are just fragments. Or, it happened, that I was working on a scene from my book (yes, the eternal book), and something did not feel right. So the mind took over, and while I was sleeping I found the most amazing solution to how to develop the scene.
One of those times that I was really proud of my dreaming creator mind.
This post was prompted though by the fact that a few days ago, Saturday to Sunday night, to be more precise, my mind overdid itself.
It created a story from beginning to middle and end in one fell swoop.
Waking mind blown!
And what is funny is that it is a very complex story, with loads of characters and a complicated situation.
I have not written the story yet as sadly I did not get the time, but I am really happy that I followed the advice of my better half and put down all the details I had when I woke up, because indeed you do forget them as you distance yourself from that state.
When I have written it, I will flag it to you, so you know which it is. Most likely I will modify bits and pieces, but I am confident that the core of it will come from what my mind created during the night.
I find this fascinating and funny at the same time, that our minds can do that.
I think two weeks ago I bought some books on dream symbols, as I like to introduce little symbols here and there for my characters. I know I can just look up info online, but sometimes ideas come from browsing through the categories and just letting the mind play with the concepts.
I also found quite a nice Penguin symbols dictionary that I will consult for the same.
I hope my dreaming mind will keep working at them stories, as it makes my waking life so much easier.
Do you ever dream your stories or characters?
Brilliant!
