The first book I read written by Maeve Binchy was The Glass Lake. I loved it.
I loved the way she describes places, people and events. There is such suaveness in her writing, such beauty, that I was drawn to it irremediably.
Ever since this first book, I read others by her, not all of them, cause I do not want them to finish. I love knowing that there are still books by her I did not read and I look at them lovingly in my library enjoying the thought that there are still books to read, when the time comes.
Looking for Maeve’s books in charity shops I also stumbled on some signed copies, and in true obsessive compulsive form, I started to look for them intentionally. Now I have quite a few signed books, not only by Maeve but by others also, I will write a post about just them, so I can boast with my small collection.
I look at them sometimes and open them reverently, just to think that her hands touched that book that I am holding, that makes me feel so humble and so grateful.
I love Maeve Binchy’s books, and I love Maeve Binchy.
When I saw Tara Road I could not believe that it was her and her husband Gordon, sitting there at the bar. I had to look it up to make sure. I find it wonderful that she is there among her creations, seeing them brought to life, and the world she created move around her.
Such a wonderful writer! Thank you for your stories.
