Witches are really decent people. It is yitches that have given them a bad name.
Nowadays, very few know that witches and yitches are two different branches of beings with special abilities. Only yitches are naturally inclined to do callous, mean things, while witches are healers and empaths.
Funny enough, the distinction between the two was lost because of the difficulty to pronounce yitches. It is a lot easier to stick just to witches and this was also heavily encouraged by yitches. After all, it was to their advantage for people not to know who they really are or even that they exist.
Back to the witch I want to tell you about though.
She lives somewhere between Cabra and Navan Road in Dublin 7, in an area without a street name. So, for example, if you wanted to write to her you would use just the number and name of her house. 88 Sancta Brigida. No street or person name needed, just that, and all the letters would always be delivered to the normal looking 3 bed semi-d.
The house, if anything, looks pretty shabby. Single glazed, in need of a wash, gutters with plants growing out of them. The drive covered in leaves in winter and weeds in summer. Not the type of house you would pass by and be taken in by its curb appeal.
Nobody knew though what lay behind the big, blue door. Nobody that is except for Teresa, the witch living there.
Another thing, little known about witches, is that their abilities do not enable them to make money any differently than us normal folk, which is not the same for yitches, but later about that.
More about Teresa now.
Teresa, the witch living in the house, at the unnamed crossroads, in Dublin 7, works as a cashier in the Lidl in Cabra by day, and enjoys her life and skills as a witch by night. Work in Lidl suits her just fine, as shift work allows Teresa more freedom to dedicate herself to her craft while also earning a living.
Teresa’s craft is not one that can be monetized easily. She does not predict the future, she does not sell potions or ointments, she does not do spells or curses. Teresa has quite a different and niche magical power.
The first thing you need to know is that she is a shape shifter, and now for some clarification.
Teresa’s shape shifting is quite an interesting one. I will do my best to explain.
Teresa’s magic is linked to clothes, or better said, worn clothes. Clothes she usually buys from charity shops. When Teresa puts on an item of clothing her appearance completely transforms into that of the person that wore that item last. Mad, I hear you say. Yeah, a lot of things about witches sound totally out of this world, that is because they are and it takes us humans a bit of time to get our heads around it.
Usually, Teresa looks like ‘one of those faces’, nothing about her is extraordinary or memorable. You can talk to her one moment, and then again three minutes later, without having any inkling that it is the same person as before. But, when she puts on a dress, a suit, a coat or cardigan she transforms completely becoming somebody else. The thing is though, that just the appearance changes, not her, so a lot of her time is spent trying to figure out how would that person have behaved, or their posture or their mannerisms.
Yeah, I know, such an unusual magical power! It could be used for evil for sure, but as you know witches do not do harm or evil things, they do not hurt people, so Teresa’s power can only be used for good. Although, in fairness, the practical applications for good are not that easily identifiable.
I will tell you more about that and all about Teresa’s adventures in future posts!
